Last weekend, 105 teams competed in the 5th annual Reno-Tahoe Odyssey. With favorable conditions, Battle Born from Reno, NV set a course record of 17 hours 57 minutes 32 seconds to win first place overall and the men’s title. They broke their own record of 18 hours 3 minutes 26 seconds set in 2008. The winning mixed team was the Squaw Valley Free Run Cutters of Tahoe City, CA, who also set a course record for the mixed division of 19 hours 47 minutes 41 seconds. They were 3rd overall. The Tahoe Trail Babes of Reno, Nevada and various Lake Tahoe communities set a course record for all womens teams with a time of 22 hours 43 minutes 31 seconds. They broke their own record of 22 hours 56 minutes 23 seconds. They were 8th overall.
As for the 4th leg time trial (a brutal 8 mile leg with 6 miles of hill), a new record was set this year by Ron Tibaduiza of Reno. His time was 51:07, breaking the mark of 53:06 set by Jeff Huxhold in 2008. His pace was 6:23 per mile for that most difficult 8 mile leg with a 6 mile ascent. Ron ran Leg 4 for the Runny Bums. This year’s fastest woman was Lynice Anderson of Reno. Her time was 1:08:19, 21st overall of 105 runners. She ran Leg 4 for the Tahoe Trail Babes.
